"SHAPING HEARTS AND MINDS IN THE SERVICE OF CHRIST"
Sixth Grade Welcome 2019-2020
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the Sixth Grade! I hope your summer has been one of relaxation and adventure as you enjoyed time with family and friends. I am thrilled to be working with your child this year and am looking forward to meeting my students and their parents. My name is Beth Wildern. This is my fifth year teaching 6th grade at St. Mary School. I retired from Charlotte Public Schools in June of 2015 having taught there since 1990 teaching in 3rd, 5th and 6th grade. My husband Jeff and I have four sons who have families of their own, that total our 11 grandchildren! Here is some helpful information for our school year together:
I do check my email throughout the day. Any emails past 5:30 PM will be responded to in a timely manner.
If your child is absent, let the office know. Please do not relay the message through another child.
Once again, there is no parking on St. Mary Boulevard in the morning this year. Students may be dropped off in front of the school, but if a parent needs to enter the school for any reason during morning drop off times, the back parking lot is available for parking.
School starts at 8:45 AM and this is when students enter the building. It is important that your child is here before 8:45, so they are ready to come into the building when school starts. When students are here on time, they are standing with their class, hearing daily announcements, participating in morning prayer and saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
School ends at 3:35 PM.Only students riding the bus home can leave through the front door at the end of the day. Every non-bus student will need to be picked up in car line starting at 3:35. All non-bus students not picked up by 3:50 will go to child care.
If your child is not riding the bus, you need to be in car line behind the church to pick up your child. If you are unable to pick up your child in car line, it is important that you make arrangements with the “after school child care”. If students are not picked up, staff will drop children off at “after school child care” until you are able to pick them up. Please see school website for Child Care paperwork for signing children up.
I will be updating our class website soon so that your child and you can view. Our website is: http://mrswildern.weebly.com
Students are expected to turn in all homework on time. Students will still be allowed to turn in missing assignments for partial credit. Please contact me with any concerns that you may have as the year progresses.
Students will be using Study Island again this year along with MobyMax as a component of the regular math curriculum. Both of these programs help to close any gaps students may have with their math knowledge and will supplement the work that students complete from math lessons and expand on the concepts practiced. These two computer programs will be easily accessible from home and will be great practice for math fluency. Expect math homework to include these programs.
6th grade will not participate in holiday celebrations this school year.
The only scheduled recess 6th graders have each day is at lunch time. There may be a time during the school day when I feel we need a break.
Students will have a snack time in the morning. Classroom snacks such as fruit, yogurt, cheese and crackers are encouraged. No chips or dessert snacks-please.
This year again, there will be a classroom and schoolwide emphasis on following procedures. Students are expected to be in uniform and acting accordingly no matter where they are in school. Middle school students may wear colored Polo shirts everyday except for Thursdays. Mass will be on Thursdays and students need to wear white, light blue or navy blue Polo shirts. Please be sure to read the St. Mary School dress code in the school handbook.
All daily classroom assignments will be found written by your child in their agenda. The agenda is a great tool for students and parents to help keep track of daily important assignments and information.
I will also keep working on our class website to help keep you as up to date as possible. Our class website is: http//www.mrswildern.weebly.com
All school information needed throughout the year can be found on the school website. St. Mary School website is: www.stmarycharlotte.org .
I look forward to a great year with your child! Sincerely, Mrs. Beth Wildern
